Scientists from the Faculty of Marine Technology and Natural Sciences of Klaipėda University participate in the international Interreg South Baltic 2021-2027 program project “ Promoting sustainable use of water ”.
The common challenge is therefore to use environmentally friendly technologies in small wastewater treatment plants that take into account stricter limits on the quality of wastewater and newer problems such as PFAS and microplastics.
The aim of the project is to reduce the release of pollutants from wastewater and sewage sludge into the environment, to test innovative green technology solutions and to learn best practices. Cross-border cooperation with universities and sewage treatment plant owners will help.

For effective operation, a cross-border approach is required, based on joint activities, exchange of experience and knowledge flow between regions and to expand best practices/standards between EU countries.
The project is implemented by a consortium of 6 participants. Main project partners: Rybno Commune (Poland). Partners: University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn (Poland), Lithuanian Research Center for Agriculture and Forest (Lithuania), BEOF – Bornholm Energie og Forsyning (Denmark), VA SYD (Sweden), Klaipėda University (Lithuania).
The project is funded by South Baltic Interreg 2021-2027.
